In nine countries -- Switzerland, United States, Canada, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Romania, Italy and France -- I am collecting original gestures on small pieces of paper the size of a Swissnote, SFr. 100.- (3" x 6 3/4", or 7.8 cm x 17 cm). The papers collected will become part of public installations and exhibitions in Bern (Switzerland) and New York. The papers will be accessable to the public through an NCR Bancmachine (known as ATM Bank machine in United States). Overall views of all gestures received will be shown at the Francesca Pia Gallery, Bern (Switzerland) and Kentler International, Brooklyn (New York). The "Gesture As Value", project is an international project presenting exchange as social value intending to minimize national borders and offer individuals, using the machine, a broad perspective on other realities. The only requirement is that the contributions be made onto the papers provided or onto papers precisely the same dimension and of similiar weight (80-120 g)ARITIST'S BIOJerelyn Hanrahan is a New York artist currently living and developing projects in Europe. In addition to realizing the international project "Gesture as Value" the artist is completing a book of "97 Drawings", text by New York/English Poet, Max Blagg. Published by Andrers Zust, Edition, Ricco Bilger, Zurich, Switzerland. |
