03/20/2006: "Monday March 20, 2006"

We started our third week by supporting the leaders we've been working with to teach a one-week class that starts today, which currently consists of three new participants. They taught them Photoshop, the "elements" of a good story, and gave feedback and suggestions to the new participants who told their stories to the group. The learned how to make a lesson plan, set up all the equipment and support participants both one-on-one and in class. In the Photoshop class, one leader gave the "lecture", one demonstrated on a computer hooked up to a projector and the rest helped the participants who followed along on their computers.

In a small community where everyone knows everyone, it's a challenge to go beyond relationships they have formed with each other outside of the class so they have to work particularly hard to be able to create a supportive working environment and work together as a team. Jennifer and I realized that although through our program at Central Neighbourhood House we have trained leaders/peer facilitators who co-teach the program under our leadership this time we are training leaders who will create and take the lead in initiating their own programs so this is another big challenge for all of us.
