Information - Misinformation
Bart Harnett

Information - Misinformation is an art project presented this year at the biennial of graphic arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia as an off-site exhibition. It is spearheaded by the efforts of curators Gregor Podnar and Hans Ulrich Obrist, involving approximately fifty artists, and shown over three European countries simultaneously (Slovenia, Poland and Austria).

The curatorial aims of this experiment are to present art outside of traditional art venues and in public spaces, thus achieveing a more social engaged context. Public spaces involved included television (T.V. Slovenia), billboards, radio, newspapers and infoscreens in major railway stations. Using such diverse and public mediums reaches the widest audience possible and (hopefully) surprise them - seeing art where they would least expect it. The art is being released slowly over the summer, with aims to achieve a culmunative effect and letting that effect evolve over time.

It would be impossible for any one person to see all the art involved in this project as it is too widely dispersed over time, space and mediums. Therefore the whole project is being extensively documented and a future publication exhibiting all of its component factors will later become available. In the meantime Slovenians can enjoy being bombarded by an extensive, multifaceted barrage of unexpected art.
