Gridlock est un jeu artistique génératif conçu pour amuser l'esprit des personnes coincées dans la circulation ou dans des voitures immobilisées. En touchant l'écran et en y faisant des tracés, on peut créer une variété infinie de formes géométriques. Une fuite visuelle pour la génération post-Mondrian. Gridlock cesse tout mouvement seulement lorsque son utilisateur cesse de lui toucher. Gridlock n'apparaît qu'au moment où la voiture s'arrête.

Si la personne le désire, elle peut s'imaginer à flotter dans tous les sens et aussi librement que les formes créées par ses doigts. De plus, le contact mobile sur l'écran agit sur des fonctionnalités sonores et textuelles. Des heures de plaisir! Piles non comprises. Gridlock est un antidote contre la rage au volant et une ode concrète au cube de Rubik.
David Jhave Johnston (Montréal) est un poète multimédia qui vit et travaille à Montréal. Parmi d'autres activités artistiques, il a exposé des installations in situ avec Symbiosis Collective, écrit et mis en scène du théâtre multi-média avec le collectif Unconscious Collective, et enregistré du "spoken-word" électronique pour le label ZOI maintenant défunt. Il a contribué la création d'un projet de CD-Rom intitulé Navigations technologiques. Il a aussi modifié des vidéos pour le festival Transmedia 2002, et fait un clip pour Brian Sanderson. Il a travaillé comme assistant de recherche pour le projet Obx Active-Text. David Johnston est fréquemment invité en tant qu'intervenant dans les conférences consacrées à l'art Web.

"gridlock" is a generative art-toy designed to amuse the minds of people who are trapped in traffic or stationary automobiles. By touching and tracing paths over the screen, an infinite diversity of geometric shapes can be generated. Visual escapism for the post-mondrian generation. "gridlock" only stops moving when the user stops touching it. "gridlock" only appears when the car stops.

If the person is willing they can imagine themselves fluctuating as wildly and freely as the shapes generated by their fingers. In addition, mobile touch on the screen influences audio and text functionalities. Good for hours of fun. Batteries not included. "Gridlock" is a road-rage antidote and a rubix cube concrete poem.
David Jhave Johnston is a nomadic artist who is temporarily roosting in Montreal., where he is currently enrolled in the Digital Image and Sound Programme at Concordia Univ. Primarily a poet, he recently finished a six-year exploratory project of handwritten mixed-media work before completely devoting himself to digital creation (creating a year-long exhibit called NomadLingo for the Year01 site). Among other activities, he has exhibited with the Symbiosis Collective, written and directed multi-media theatre with the Collective Unconscious Collective, and recorded electronica spoken-word for the now-defunct Zoi label.
