Joanna Briggs - "Haikoo!"
Click here to launch the site in a new
window.
Statement:
Haikoo, a work
by Joanna Briggs, parallels and challenges the structure of
web-based information. Haikoo is an internet directory that mimics
the structure and architecture of Yahoo! While Yahoo uses 25 words
to describe web sites, Haikoo uses seventeen syllables and the
format of haiku poetry to describe sites. Similar to Yahoo, users
submit links with descriptions that are approved by an adminstrator
before publication on the site.
Bio:
Joanna Briggs is
a Canadian visual artist working with photographic and digital
media. She studied at Simon Fraser University and Ryerson
Polytechnic Univerisity. For two consecutive years, Joanna's
photographic output has been exhibited at Contact, the Toronto
photography festival. For 2002, she has been chosen to be part of
Hydra, an exhibit and boxed-set of photographs. Joanna's digital
projects - including Haikoo - challenge the utility and structure of
information on the internet. Also, her typography is distributed
through fontage| canada. Her professional work includes several
award-winning websites for major corporations.
