59th minute: John Greyson '14.3 SECONDS'

Year Zero One is pleased to present TRANSMEDIA :29:59, a year long exhibition on the pedestrian level video billboard at Yonge-Dundas Square in downtown Toronto. Launched August 1st 2005, TRANSMEDIA :29:59 features one minute video works 24/7 every half hour on the 29th and 59th minutes.

Featured for the month of July is Collin Zipp's 'Niverville, MB 08.04
' and John Greyson's ''14.3 SECONDS'.

Collin Zipp's Niverville, MB 08.04 explores the presence of technology within our environments. The creation process begins by subjecting the video's digital information to physical defacement by using various methods. The final product is then captured and edited to create an altered digital environment.

John Greyson 14.3 SECONDS: During the 2003 war, U.S. planes bombed the Iraqi Film Archive. 14.3 seconds of celluloid were salvaged from the wreckage. If you slow them down by 23.8%, they last a minute.

BIOS

Collin Zipp is a multidisciplinary video/digital artist who obtained his BFA with Honours from the University of Manitoba's School of Art. His video work uses various experimental techniques to explore the beauty within imperfection, human perception and memory. The raw video footage is manipulated, and imperfections in the data caused by the technology are utilized to make the medium more self-evident and create a lo-fi aesthetic. His work has been included in many exhibitions and screenings across Canada and the USA. Recently Zipp had an exhibition at the Eastern Front Gallery in Toronto, ON, and upcoming exhibitions include group shows at The Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Kelowna Art Gallery in Kelowna, BC, and at Plug In ICA in Winnipeg, MB.

John Greyson is a Toronto film/video artist whose shorts, features and installations include: Fig Trees (2003, Oakville Art Galleries); Proteus (Best Actor, Sithenghi 2003); The Law of Enclosures (2000, Best Actor Genie); Lilies (1996 - Best Film Genie, Best Film at festivals in Montreal, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, San Francisco); Un©ut (1997, Honourable Mention, Berlin Film Festival); Zero Patience (1993 - Best Canadian Film, Sudbury Film Festival); The Making of Monsters (1991 - Best Canadian Short, Toronto Film Festival, Best Short Film Teddy - Berlin Film Festival); and Urinal (1988 - Best Feature Teddy, Berlin Film Festival). He co-edited Queer Looks, a critical anthology on gay/lesbian film & video (Routledge, 1993), is the author of Urinal and Other Stories (Power Plant/Art Metropole, 1993), and has published essays and artists pieces in Alphabet City, Public, FUSE, and twelve critical anthologies.
